How does surrogacy work?

For Intended Parents, look no further than these 6 steps below.

Step 1: Contact Us for a Consultation and to Begin the Process

The first step for Intended Parents looking for quality surrogacy services is to reach out to us for a consultation.
We begin by discussing any questions or concerns you may have and develop a plan that suits your individual needs, all while taking care of preliminary paperwork.

  • For Intended Parents who need assistance finding a fertility clinic, we provide a list of the finest fertility clinics in the U.S. for your review and selection.
  • For Intended Parents who require egg and sperm donations, we are happy to provide a range of donor options that meet your needs.
  • For Intended Parents who have embryos of their own that are ready to be transferred, we can identify your requirements for surrogates and enter the next stage—selecting your surrogate mother.

Step 2: Choose Your Surrogate Mother
New Journey Surrogacy recruits highly qualified gestational surrogates, providing you with the finest selection of surrogate profiles that match your requirements. All of our surrogates have successfully passed our remarkably rigorous screening programs. Once selected, we schedule a meeting, allowing you to meet the surrogate mother for a face-to-face discussion, or a video call for international clients. Once you make a final decision on your surrogate, we will establish the retainer agreement between you and New Journey. Your surrogacy journey has now officially begun!

Step 3:Legal Process
Once the surrogate has been evaluated by the IVF center, all screening has been completed, and the cycle is ready to commence, both the Intended Parents and the surrogate start their legal contracts. Each party will be referred to separate attorneys who specialize in surrogacy law. As an Intended Parent, you will enter into a contract with the surrogate. When a final version of the contract has been agreed upon, all parties sign the legal contract.
Medications cannot begin until all parties have signed the contract and the drafting attorney has sent a clearance letter to the IVF physician, notifying them that we can commence with the cycle.

Step 4: Begin the Fertilization and Embryo Transfer Process
After you’ve completed the legal contract with the surrogate mother, the embryo transfer process can begin.
The surrogate mother undergoes 2-3 weeks of fertility treatments, beginning the first day of her natural cycle. The success of the transfer depends on a number of factors, from the health of the surrogate mother and embryos to simple good fortune.
If the transfer needs to be repeated, additional viable embryos from the fertilization process are typically available for this very purpose.

Step 5: Pregnancy
Once successfully pregnant, your surrogate mother begins her prenatal care regimen.
Surrogates have scheduled checkups at the IVF clinic during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. After that, they transfer to a leading nearby obstetrician for regular pregnancy checkups and delivery. New Journey ensures all appointments and exams are attended.

Step 6: Become Legal Parents
Once your surrogate mother is ready to give birth, you will be invited to the hospital to welcome your new child!
From there, the path to becoming legal parents is lined with paperwork, which New Journey Surrogacy will assist you with—including newborn care and return documentation for international clients.

Just like life itself, surrogacy for Intended Parents is a little different for everyone, with no two experiences exactly alike.
